The Philosopher In Me
by: me

Is there something in the human psyche that tells outsiders that something's wrong? A wake up call like a rough shake on the shoulders going, "Hey! Pay attention to me!" There's a reason for it and that reason usually creates a monster in some shape or form that alerts those warning bells between our ears. Well, what causes those bells to go off? What tells them what's right and what's wrong? Society. Media. Everything that we surround ourselves with affects our psyche and our morals. Ever since the beginning of civilization, mankind has learned what is proper, 'civilized' rather than 'barbaric'. Who told us they were? People who believed they were superior to others. Ms. Etiquette looked down her nose at her neighbors and sniffed. "How barbaric. They eat with their hands. I'm going to use this round stone to put the food in my mouth." That stone became a silver spoon to bring caviar to our lips. But what if the cavemen were right? What if we, with our advanced way of living, were wrong and in actuality, those neanderthals were right? And when did the word 'neanderthal' become an insult? We were once all neanderthals, without them we wouldn't be what we are today. Yes, that last remark was quite obvious and boring in its repetition. However, there is no other way to say it. And now I must say another, the truth that we all must face. We're snobs. We all believe that we're better than everything and anything else on this planet. Perhaps the universe. We have a strict idea in our heads that all of us should act a certain way. We may argue and deny it, but we're contradicting ourselves as we say it. All of us agree that all of us are different. And yet how do we find criminals in the court of law? How do lawyers defend or condemn the accused? By explaining-or rather preying on the jury's sympathy that their parties are human. Humans as a category. So 'humans' are separated into two groups; the ones capable of wrong-doing and those who are not. And pray, who does this separation? God? He will point to your son and say, "You are capable of wrong-doing because you are a child." To the father, he says, "You are the adult. Therefore, you are judge/executioner."

But of course, everything is only speculation. Truth in theory. I'm a bit off my rocker today. Let's see what I have to say tomorrow.
